Springsteen Will Perform for 8 Weeks On Broadway in ‘Intimate’ Setting

Bruce Springsteen will do a Broadway show of his music, excerpts from his autobiography, and other spoken anecdotes for eight weeks this fall at the Walter Kerr Theatre.

The show, “Springsteen on Broadway,” is intended to provide a “small and intimate” setting as compared to the stadiums Springsteen is used to playing, according to The New York Times.

“My show is just me, the guitar, the piano, and the words and music,” Springsteen said, the Times reported. “Some of the show is spoken, some of it is sung. It loosely follows the arc of my life and work.”

News of the show leaked in June, and plans for it have been in the works since December of last year. There will be five shows a week, from Tuesday to Saturday, between Oct. 12 and Nov. 26, with some preview shows starting Oct. 3, Rolling Stone reported.

Fans will have to get their tickets by registering with Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program to avoid ticket scalping, a pet peeve of Springsteen’s. Ticket registration begins Wednesday and closes Aug. 27, with tickets going on sale Aug. 30, Rolling Stone reported. Registered users will be chosen randomly to get a chance to buy tickets when they go on sale.

The Kerr theater has been empty since Amelie closed in May after a short run. It seats 975 per show. Springsteen was reportedly offered the theater rent-free, with him keeping ticket revenue and the theater keeping revenue from alcohol sales, Rolling Stone reported.

There has been some speculation of a Broadway production based on Springsteen’s autobiography at a later date, but it has not been confirmed.

Many Twitter users were excited, some were confused by the ticket registration process, and others made no secret that they disliked “The Boss”’s politics of late.
