Brian Wilson, of the Beach Boys, got an "A" from his high school music teacher Fred Morgan for his hit song "Surfin'," but it came 58 years after graduating from Hawthorne High School.

Wilson, 75, the cofounder of the group, went to Twitter to share the news that Morgan, who had initially gave Wilson an "F" on one of the band's signature songs, has now changed his mind decades later, People magazine reported.

The failing grade didn’t stop Wilson and the Beach Boys from becoming one of the biggest stars in the rock era, with the band being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

"Surfin'" became the band's first single in 1961, which landed them a record deal with Capitol Records, per the band's Hall of Fame biography. The Beach Boys – comprised of Wilson, his brothers Carl and Dennis, cousin Mike Love, and Hawthorne High classmate Al Jardine – went on to chart more than 20 songs on the Top 40 charts from 1962 and 1966.

Despite the Beach Boys' ocean-side persona, Wilson wrote in his autobiography "I Am Brian Wilson," that he was actually "scared" of the ocean, People reported.

"You wouldn't think this, but I almost never went to the beach as a kid, even though it was only a few miles away," Wilson wrote. "The first time I went to the ocean I couldn't believe it. My dad took us and I was scared at the size of it."

Fans shared their feelings on Twitter.
