Brenda Gold, a 54-year-old Cincinnati school teacher, has been on a whirlwind tour that has taken her to a national talk show, Sunday's Academy Awards and perhaps the NFL sidelines as a cheerleader in the future.

Gold, who teaches math at The School for Creative & Performing Arts in Cincinnati, was selected as one of three finalists to receive a makeover on the morning show "Live with Kelly and Michael" on Feb. 19.

She revealed that her goal was to become a cheerleader for the Cincinnati Bengals' Ben-Gals, according to WCPO-TV.

"I am going through my second divorce and decided to try out for the BenGals Cheerleading squad. I really want to be a BenGal," Gold wrote in a message to "Live with Kelly and Michael" producers. "But, in order to do that, I seriously need a lot of glamour! I think that I can do the dance steps, and I think that I can get in shape enough to do this, but I really need some glamour lessons."

Gold's full makeover included a new hairdo, makeup and clothes. Her new look prompted the show's co-host Michael Strahan, a retired New York Giants player and Hall of Famer, to say: "Coming from a guy who came from sports, you can cheer for my team anytime."

Gold won the show's grand prize through a viewer vote, which was a trip to the Academy Awards for a seat on the red carpet and tickets to "Live's After Oscar Show."

Gold wrote on her Facebook page Friday: "A huge thank you to ALL of you who helped me to win this trip to Hollywood!!!!! I really appreciate all the voting, sharing and encouraging everyone you know to vote!"

Gold, who played volleyball at the University of Kentucky and trained in dance most of her life, now has to compete against women younger than her 28-year-old son to win a spot on the cheerleading squad.

Tryouts are in May. Gold plans on starting a series of 10 practice dance classes starting on Tuesday as well as attending some of the squad’s workshops, according to Bleacher Report.

Her son Matt Gold, a software engineer in Indiana, told the Indianapolis Star that he has faith that his mother will achieve her dreams.

"When she puts her mind to something, she's tireless in achieving it, especially as a teacher," Matt Gold said. "It's amazing what she does to help her students each year. I'm rooting for her and wishing her luck, but I don't think she needs it. She's a great mom and a great person, and it's nice to see her getting some notice."
