Brady Morton went missing during Sunday's annual "Float Down" event in Port Huron, Michigan, and authorities continued their search Monday to find him.

According to the person called in the report, the 19-year-old from Fenton was tubing down the river with roughly 40 friends when he disembarked near Malcolm Marine Inc., which is on the Pine River near the St. Clair River. He was said to have gone under the water and was not seen resurfacing.

"Someone saw him get off the raft," Petty Officer Christopher Yaw of the U.S. Coast Guard's Ninth District told Michigan Live. Yaw added that Morton's group was drinking.

The group of 40 were among the thousands that turn out each year for the Float Down, a roughly 30-year-old event that was officially canceled in 2010 but continues to this day.

The Voice of northern Macomb & St. Clair counties reported Monday that search crews had covered 157 square miles of the river and adjacent waterways. During that time, the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office Dive Team said it has used sonar as part of its search.

Port Huron Police Corp. Jason Barna said two people including Morton were reported missing at one point during the event, but one, a Canadian, was located. He was said to have found a place to take a brief nap during the event.

Morton graduated from Fenton High School in 2013, and completed a year at the University of Michigan, Flint. This fall he planned to move to Michigan State University.

"In five days, he was supposed to move in with five other guys who were really good friends with him," said Morton's high school friend Evan Hudson. He said Morton's high-school nickname was "Sunshine" because. "He was never sad or never down."
