Brad Pitt attended the Los Angeles premiere of "Unbroken" on Monday with three of his six kids and his parents to fill in for wife Angeline Jolie, who was home with the chickenpox.

Maddox, 13, Pax, 11, and Shiloh, 8, all dressed in black, accompanied their dad in place of their mom, who directed the film, the New York Daily News reported.

Jolie filmed a statement about having to miss the event because of her illness.

"I will be home itching and missing everyone. I can’t believe this because the film means so much to me. I just can’t believe it, but such is life. There it is. I send everyone my love and hope everything goes well," Jolie said in the statement.

"We all miss her," actor Garrett Hedlund told People magazine at the premiere. "I'm sure she wants to be here really bad."

The World War II film tells the story of the late Louis Zamperini, a 1936 Olympian who was captured during World War II and spent years as a Japanese prisoner of war.

"Unbroken" won four Critics' Choice nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association, including best picture and best director, according to People.

Zamperini’s daughter, Cynthia Garris, contacted Jolie after hearing of her illness, USA Today reported.

"I told her how much I loved her and how I couldn't believe what a crazy week she had," Garris said. "But she handles things with such serenity. She said she was going to hang out during the premiere with my Dad's portrait. Just alone. And she was going to raise a glass to him."

Jolie has faced a couple obstacles recently with the leak of the Sony Pictures emails, including one in which producer Scott Rudin called her a "minimally talented spoiled brat." Rudin has apologized. "Unbroken" also was shut out of the Golden Globe nominations last week, USA Today said.
