Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio are being brought together by Quentin Tarantino for his late 1960s-based film "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood."

Billed so far as “a story that takes place in Los Angeles in 1969, at the height of hippy Hollywood," details of the project have been kept mostly under wraps, with many speculating that it could be about Charles Manson and the Manson family murders, Variety reported.

DiCaprio has been cast to play a former western TV star named Rick Dalton, and Pitt will star as his stunt double Cliff Booth.

“Both are struggling to make it in a Hollywood they don’t recognize anymore. But Rick has a very famous next-door neighbor . . . Sharon Tate,” Tarantino said in a statement, according to Variety.

“I’ve been working on this script for five years, as well as living in Los Angeles County most of my life, including in 1969, when I was 7 years old,” he continued. “I’m very excited to tell this story of an L.A., and a Hollywood that don’t exist anymore. And I couldn’t be happier about the dynamic teaming of DiCaprio & Pitt as Rick & Cliff.”

Tarantino has reportedly asked the Oscar-nominated Margot Robbie to play Sharon Tate, the actress who was killed by Manson's cult in 1969, in the movie, according to Deadline.

The movie is slated for release on Aug. 9, 2019.

This is the first picture that Tarantino is releasing without The Weinstein Company. Sony Pictures grabbed the rights for the film after the famed director and producer pulled it from TWC, Deadline reported.

Tarantino worked with DiCaprio on "Django Unchained," and he teamed up with Pitt in his movie "Inglorious Basterds."

The announcement of a Pitt and DiCaprio duo reportedly puts a period on a negotiating process that The Hollywood Reporter called "strenuous."
