Brad Parscale has been named President Donald Trump's campaign manager for his 2020 re-election bid, elevating the adviser from his role as digital director of Trump's 2016 campaign.

The announcement, which comes ahead of the 2018 mid-term elections and 980 days before Election Day, marks the earliest that any president has named a re-election campaign manager, according to Drudge Report.

The president's son Eric Trump called Parscale an "amazing talent," according to USA Today.

"He has our family's complete trust and is the perfect person to be at the helm of the campaign," he said.

Here are five things to know about Parscale:

1. He and Trump have history — According to The Texas Tribune, Parscale is based out of San Antonio and his web design firm played a large role in Trump's social media presence in the 2016 race. Though he didn't get into politics until joining team Trump in 2015, he worked for the Trump Organization for "several years designing websites and helping develop digital strategy for Trump businesses," CNN reported.

2. He chose Facebook over Twitter — While Trump's social media presence on Twitter is well-known, Parscale relied more on Facebook advertisements during the 2016 campaign, crediting the spots as successful tools in reaching rural voters, according to CBS News.

3. He stayed in the Trump circle — Parscale stayed connected with Trump after the presidential election. According to the Federal Elections Commission, he was paid more than $130,000 by a Trump-supporting super PAC in 2017 for "digital design, fundraising, and consulting," the Tribune noted.

4. His influence is expanding — Parscale's expanding political resume has also reached the Republican National Committee. His Florida-based firm, Parscale Strategy, has a contract with the RNC to help grow its database of small donors, according to CNN. During the campaign, he worked with the RNC on its get out the vote operation.

5. He testified in the Russia investigation — Parscale has testified privately in front of the House Intelligence Committee in the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, according to CNN. He hired Cambridge Analytica to work on the president's 2016 campaign, but said he knew nothing about the firm's chief executive trying to reach WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to try to leverage the hacked Clinton emails, CNN reported.
