A woman hit speeds of 70 miles per hour on Interstate 95 in Florida while her ex-boyfriend desperately clung to the hood of the car.

The vehicle sped from Broward to Miami-Dade County and back again before coming to a stop in West Park, where a terrified Junior Francis, 22, finally hopped off the hood and grabbed the keys out of the ignition, Local 10 reported.

A video posted on Twitter of the incident went viral and many could only speculate about the series of events that led up to the ordeal.

Now the couple have spoken to various publications about what transpired and a better picture has emerged.

It all started with a simple argument over who should get to use the car.

Francis and his on-again, off-again girlfriend Patresha Isidore both own the Mercedes-Benz C300 and both needed to use it on Sunday night, Local 10 said.

The couple share a five-year-old daughter and Isidore wanted to pick her up from a relative's home.

She beat Francis to the car. He jumped onto the hood of the car as she was leaving their Lauderhill home.

Isidore refused to stop the vehicle and gradually picked up speed as she drove through the suburbs and onto I-95.

“I had to go get my child. I wasn’t going to deal with any foolishness,” Isidore told WSVN. “He had plenty of times to get off the car. He didn’t want to stop."

She said she felt threatened and had no other choice but to accelerate.

"He was threatening me, so I was scared, so of course I wasn’t going to stop and let him get in the car," she explained.

Somehow during his ride, Francis was able to call 911 for help. The emergency call has since been released by Florida authorities.

"Yes, I’m on top of a speeding vehicle — someone's trying to steal my car," Francis is heard telling the operator, Inside Edition reported.

"I don't even know where I’m at," he continued. "She's swerving the car and I’m on top of the car. I really need help!"

Isidore was arrested on a charge of crimes against a person exposing them to harm but has since been released from jail, Local 10 said.

Francis, who refused to press charges or provide a sworn recorded statement, told the news outlet that she was going to be the death of him.

"This woman is going to kill me," Francis said. "She's really out to kill me."

Isidore meanwhile, told WSVN that Francis was acting crazy.

“He won’t leave me alone. We broke up about eight months ago.”
