A 10-year-old boy recently sold his own toys to help his service dog walk again.

Copper is a registered service and emotional support dog who has always been there to help Connor Jayne, of Fairport, New York, who was diagnosed with PTSD, anxiety, ADHD, chronic headache disorder and also suffers from nocturnal seizures, People magazine reported.

The tables turned when they boy found out that his canine companion may have a disease that affects the spinal cord and makes it difficult for animals to walk.

Faced with expensive medical tests, treatments and possibly surgery, Connor Jayne immediately set about raising money to help his Doberman.

Step one was to sell his toys at a yard sale, which raised some much-needed funds to help pay for Copper's expensive medical tests that have already amounted to $2,500.

"He one of my best friends,” said Connor Jayne, according to WROC-TV.

Aside from being a loving companion, Copper has also been a life saver.

Jennifer Jayne, Connor’s mom, recalled how one-night Copper began to bark frantically at the door and when she got up, the dog bolted to Connor's room, where the 10-year-old boy was having a seizure.

"I'm a single mom working hard to take care of my children and Copper is my best piece of mind for my son," Jennifer Jayne said, according to a GoFundMe page set up to raise funds for the canine.

"We need an MRI to determine the best course of treatment for him but the test is very expensive," she added.

Initially the veterinarian thought that Copper may be suffering from Wobbler's Disease, which affects an animal's ability to walk, but according to a recent post to Facebook, the dog is not showing the neurological signs of the disease.

The dog may ultimately have to undergo surgery but that will only occur if other conservative treatments fail. For now, the family remains hopeful that Copper can make a full recovery.
