A 10-year-old New Hampshire boy's serious injury has prompted an outpouring of support from well-wishers, including a professional hockey player.

Josiah Hakala was riding his bike to his grandparents’ house in early December when he hit a clump of sand, causing him to fall and strike his stomach against the handlebars, WCVB reported.

He sustained a lacerated liver and a severe pancreas injury from the accident.

Josiah spent 12 days in the intensive care unit following the traumatic spill in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. He spent Christmas day with his family at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts, WCVB reported.

A family friend had connections to get some special encouragement for the boy.

The surprising greetings and reassurance included a video recorded on a cell phone from former Boston Bruin Milan Lucic.

"Just want to let you know I’m thinking about you, hoping you have a great, speedy recovery," Lucic remarked, adding wishes for a "a merry Christmas and a happy new year," WCVB reported.

Suzanne Hakala told WCVB her son is a caring and kind person who "just lights everybody's lives up."

The family isn’t sure how long Josiah will remain in the hospital. He is unable to eat or drink until his pancreas begins functioning properly, according to a GoFundMe campaign, which raised nearly $7,000 for the youth by the day after Christmas.

Josiah is a talented athlete himself with a promising future in golf. He began competing in the U.S. Kids Boston Local Tour for young golfers at age 5, playing some 90 tournaments and winning 37 times, according to the GoFundMe page, which added there is still optimism he will continue to excel in the sport.
