A Maine town was left to grieve Wednesday when a 6-year-old boy was killed after his dad accidentally ran him over with a plow truck.

Kevin Capponi, 36, was plowing his driveway Wednesday morning around 6:45 a.m., clearing out snow left over from Tuesday's storm in Greene. He didn’t realize his son Nathan was outside playing on his scooter and, while in reverse, struck the child.

The boy was rushed to the hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, according to Main Department of Public Safety spokesperson Steve McCausland.

"Please forgive me and my family," Capponi pleaded in a Facebook post Wednesday. "I love him with all my heart. It is now broken."

Capponi's post received an outpouring of support from his Facebook friends and family members.

"There is no forgiveness needed Kevin," one person wrote. "Your family is caring and wonderful to be with. We feel joy whenever your family enters the room. You both look into the best for each other and the kids. Forgiveness is not what you should ask for in this time. I give you my prayers and love."

"This was an accident, it was not your fault," another wrote. "We always blame ourselves, but it was an accident. God has already forgiving you. You are all in our prayers today tomorrow and always. Love you all."

Alex Tardif, 10, a friend of Nathan Capponi's sister, told the Portland Herald Press he remembered the boy as "being a pretty nice kid."

Greene is located 22 miles west of the capital, Augusta, in southwestern Maine.
