'Bookbook' Campaign by Ikea Spoofs Apple's Promotional Videos

"Bookbook" is the new parody name for Ikea's 2015 catalog, which the company is promoting with a unique viral video that lampoons Apple's iconic product launches.

In the video, titled "Experience the power of a bookbook™," Ikea's "Chief Design Guru" Jorgen Eghammer sits in front of a white background, imitating Apple's star product designer, Jony Ive.

"You know, once in a while, something comes along that changes the way we live. A device so simple and intuitive, using it feels almost familiar," Eghammer says. "Introducing the 2015 Ikea catalog. It's not a digital book or an e-book — it's a bookbook."

From there, he goes on to highlight all the features of the catalog as if it were a new electronic device. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, he notes the "eternal battery life" of the paper catalog, "zero lag" load time, and 7.5-by-8-inch "interface."

He goes on for more than a minute, hammering away his expert spoof.

"Content comes preinstalled via 328 high-definition pages of inspiring home furnishing ideas. To start browsing, simply touch and grab — right to left to move forward, left to right to move backwards," he says.

According to Adweek, the marketing campaign was created by BBH Asia Pacific, and maintains the satirical tone in the attendant press release and dedicated micro-website.

"To be given the opportunity to launch such an innovative content delivery system is a once in a career opportunity," BBH creative director Tinus Strydom jokes in the press release.
