A Boka restaurant tip of $2,000 on a $759 bill was left by a Chicago diner, The Chicago Tribune reported, and he made a big deal of it with $100 bills.

The generous tipper, simply identified as Mike, was having dinner with five companions at the Lincoln Park eatery and was so impressed with the food and service that when the bill arrived he decided that 20 percent gratitude was simply not enough.

Instead he dropped a $300 on his meal, then walked round to the back of the restaurant and gave each of the 17 kitchen staff members a $100 bill.

Mike was full of praise for the restaurant, telling staff that their food and service was the best he had ever experienced, The Chicago Eater reported.

He then posed for a photo with the kitchen staff, which was uploaded onto Boka’s Facebook page.

“It was amazing to have that happen unexpectedly and randomly, and for someone to show that amount of appreciation,” said Jon Leopold, the Boka general manager, per the Tribune.

“It’s not just about the money but spending time with people in the kitchen and telling them how wonderful of a meal it was and how important it was for the cooks to be doing what they’re doing.”

Brianna Meyers, the restaurant sous-chef, added that it was a rare experience like no other.

“I think everybody was happy to be a part of,” Meyers said.

Boka is known for its excellent service and is in contention for the prestigious Beard Award for Best Service, the Eater said.

The awards have been presented since 1990 and honor excellence in food, drink, service and restaurant design via an annual ceremony, Restaurant Business reported.

In the service category, Boka is up against four other top restaurants from San Francisco, Philadelphia and Michigan, and the winner will be announced at the 2018 James Beard Awards Gala on Monday, May 7, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
