Blizzident Toothbrush Does the Job in 6 Seconds, All While Flossing

The Blizzident toothbrush, one of the latest innovations in dentistry, allows users to adequately brush their teeth in just six seconds, the company behind it claims.

The 3D printed device, which is comprised of a biocompatible plastic, contains approximately 400 soft bristles at a 45 degree angle and is costum-fit to one's mouth much like braces or a retainer.

The user simply bites down and releases the Blizzident toothbrush 10-15 times over a period of six seconds to clean the teeth, according to Blizzident's website.

The design was created by a "worldwide interdisciplinary team of dentists, engineers, computer scientists and dental prophylaxis experts," according to Blizzident.com, which came up with the idea to "radically improve and facilitate toothbrushing with the help of advanced technology."

In addition to cutting back on time as compared with a convention toothbrush, Blizzident also claims its new toothbrush will eliminate the brushing errors commonly made by people.

"Because you are brushing all your teeth at the same time, you are brushing extremely quickly," the company says. "You brush all the difficult-to-reach and interdental regions without even having to think about it."

The device will last approximately one year and costs $405 to produce the first time with reduced pricing for subsequent models, the BBC reported.

Among the added benefits is that the Blizzident toothbrush reaches the user's molars and the space underneath the gum line through a "Sub-Gingival Bass Technique," that though encouraged by dentists is supposedly difficult to apply by hand, Wired.com noted.

While toothpaste is applied to the brush in conventional brushing, Blizzident recommends that a dab of toothpaste be placed directly on the user's tongue and then smoothed over the teeth before the six seconds of teeth grinding ensues.

To get a more thorough brush, an additional four seconds of brushing with the Blizzident toothbrush is recommended and is said to be equivalent to three more minutes of conventional brushing, according to the company’s website.

And don't worry about flossing and cleaning the tongue. Blizzident claims its new custom tailored toothbrush performs those tasks simultaneously while its brushing one's teeth.

So, how does someone obtain a Blizzident toothbrush of their own?

Those interested must obtain an impression of their teeth from the dentist, then send it to a dental library where the impression is digitized and uploaded to Blizzident. The company then produces the actual mold for the user, QZ.com noted.
