Bindi Irwin: Being Blonde's a Crock, but Her Little Bro's Not

By    |   Tuesday, 06 Jan 2015 07:16 AM

Bindi Irwin, the 16-year-old daughter of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, has grown up in front of the camera, and she's ringing in the New Year with a new look.

As People magazine reported, Bindi posted a sibling selfie snapped by her younger brother Robert on Saturday, and social media lit up with reaction to what appears to be her first dye job – which has turned her sandy blonde locks a dark shade of chestnut.

On Monday, Bindi followed up with a black and white profile shot, also showing off her new status as a brunette.

Bindi has achieved a lot in the past year, becoming the youth ambassador for SeaWorld's Generation Nature program, gracing the red carpet at the AACTA Awards, and, like many 16-year-olds, getting her learner's permit.

In addition to carrying on her father and her family's legacy of working to promote appreciation and conservation of wildlife, Bindi has also been a positive role model for young women everywhere.

While she appears to have dyed her hair, Bindi didn't make an announcement of it. The caption of her photo puts the emphasis on family – specifically her brother – with her caption reading: "This boy is my world."

That said, don't expect Bindi to race headlong into womanhood, as last year she reminded her legions of fans and followers to enjoy their youth.

"I look around at a lot of young girls that are my age and they're always trying to dress older," she told an interviewer last summer.

"Whether it's wearing revealing clothes or hardly wearing any clothes at all, I feel really bad for them. It kind of has the opposite effect in some ways . . . it kind of does the opposite where it makes you look younger and like you're trying too hard."
