BET Awards show fashions grabbed many of the headlines about the 2018 event, perhaps because what people were wearing were the only big surprises left on Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

The show was hosted by Oscar-winning actor and comedian Jamie Foxx, who did a singing tribute to legendary R&B singer Anita Baker, recipient of the BET lifetime achievement award, USA Today reported.

As most probably expected, rapper Drake walked off with the Video of the Year award, Bruno Mars won the best male R&B/pop artist and Beyonce was named the best female R&B/pop artist. Kendrick Lamar and Cardi B both walked off with two awards.

It was the fashions that created all the buzz, even before the show began. The Independent crowned singer Janelle Monae as one of the best dressed with an LGBT Pride month inspired rainbow-tiered gown by Nicolas Jebran.

Also highlighted was Logan Browning, who wore a white two-piece by Dion Lee that featured a bralette and pencil skirt with a detachable ruffle hem, and actress, Ryan Destiny, dressed in a graphic slip dress, choker, and pointed court heels.

Male performers were notably dressed, as well, such as singer-songwriter Ne-Yo, who paired a striking yellow suit with silver Gucci trainers, and rapper 2 Chainz, who wore a double-breasted Gucci suit that featured the brand's iconic double G print.

Best-dressed nods were given to actress Storm Reid for her space-themed Reem Acra two-piece with bantu knots in her hair, and to Keyshia Ka'Oir who dressed in a high neck, long-sleeved gown with ruffles and train in pale pink.

Foot Wear News pointed out model and reality show host Tyra Banks, who wore a head-to-toe nude embellished ensemble, and "Empire" actress Serayah McNeill, who wore a champagne ruffled asymmetrical two-piece number.
