"Beauty and the Beast" March box office numbers were staggering, as the Disney film has made $317 million domestically and over $690 million worldwide.

The live-action remake recorded the best debut of any other film released in March, said the Los Angeles Times, and had the fourth-largest second week recorded by any film in movie history, said Fortune.

The film brought in $88 million in the U.S. and Canada in its second week.

“Power Rangers” launched with a solid $40.5 million weekend, space-thriller “Life” showed moderate traction with $12.6 million and action-comedy “Chips” opened with a disappointing $7.6 million, reported Variety.

“With ‘Beauty and the Beast’ there have been decades of goodwill and the Disney brand and so many more elements going into it than just the intellectual property,” Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst for comScore, told Fox News. “Disney makes it look easy. Others have had more challenges.”

The film featuring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast is currently ranked 55th on the all-time domestic list, noted Fortune.

“Beauty and the Beast” wasn't the only film to recently contribute to record-breaking numbers at the domestic box office.

"Get Out" has made over $150 million in the box office worldwide, noted The Wrap. The film’s director, Jordan Peele, became the first black writer-director to make more than $100 million with a debut film.”

“March has become a rock star of a month and in particular 2017 enjoyed a perfect storm of new hits and strong February releases that showed amazing staying power like ‘Get Out’ and ‘The Lego Batman Movie,’” said Dergarabedian. “The cumulative allure of an impressive slate of films conjured up a flat out great month in theaters, generating impressive momentum as the industry charges into what promises to be a furious April and a smashing summer movie season that kicks off in May with ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2.’”
