A 10-year-old boy with a BB gun was arrested after allegedly shooting out the windows of two schools buses packed with students passing by his house, Fox News reported.

The incident took place on Wednesday when a the boy, whose identity has been withheld, fired his BB gun at the two busses transporting 63 K-8 students from Marsh Grammar School in Methuen, Massachusetts, The Boston Herald reported.

The impact of the pellets shattered several bus windows, but there were no reported injuries.

Bus drivers assumed the damage was caused by rocks or other objects kicked up from the road, CBS News reported. It was only when a mechanic discovered BB pellets inside the bus that they pieced it all together.

Police, who had been alerted to a possible shooting, were able to trace the pellets to the boy who had fired the gun from his home, and they seized the weapon.

The boy is a local town resident but not a student at the district's public schools.

Investigators said, per CBS, they were taking the case very seriously because of how devastating the turnout could have been.

“You couldn’t imagine, if your child was on the bus,” said Methuen Police Captain Kristopher McCarthy, per CBS. “What could’ve happened. The severity. If the bus driver got injured and something happened to the bus while they’re driving down the roadway or if a small child was shot by a BB.”

According to Fox News, the boy is facing several charges, including two counts of malicious damage, one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and 63 counts of assault with a dangerous weapon.
