Roseanne Barr to Appear on California Ballot

Roseanne Barr’s name will appear on the ballot that California voters will use to determine who will ultimately become the next President of the United States.

Secretary of State of California Debra Bowen has indicated that the “Roseanne” star will be added to the Golden State’s primary ballot.

The television actress recently announced that she will pursue the Green Party nomination.

The California presidential primary will have a total of 24 names, including Barr’s. The number of candidates is down from 2008, when 51 names appeared on the ballot.

The comedienne has also promoted her campaign on Twitter and filed papers with the Federal Election Commission.

Scott McLarty, a national media coordinator for the Green Party, told the Washington Post that party officials were impressed by the depth of Barr’s candidate questionnaire in which she called for single-payer health care, the abolition of the electoral college, and legalization of marijuana.

NBC recently picked up her television sitcom, “Downwardly Mobile,” so Barr’s candidacy may end up conflicting with her comedy career.

The California primary is set to take place in June, and the Green Party will decide at a convention in July who its candidate is going to be.

Barr’s released statement echoes some of the Occupy Wall Street protest themes.

“The Democrats and Republicans have proven that they are servants — bought and paid for by the 1 percent — who are not doing what's in the best interest of the American people,” Barr said.
