Baker Mayfield and Mark Schlereth were locked in an online feud on Thursday after the former pro player and longtime NFL analyst posted a series of tweets criticizing the star quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner.

Schlereth was making a case against Mayfield’s football future and throwing out statistics on social media to prove his point, but things got personal after he dissed the Heisman won by Mayfield earlier this month, The Washington Post reported.

The sports analyst was engaged in a feisty back-and-forth with Oklahoma fans when another Twitter user slammed him as “another lazy reporter that talks s--- about a kid, (who by the way just won the Heisman Trophy,) and doesn’t have the balls to admit he’s wrong.”

Schlereth responded by calling the Heisman trophy a “garbage award.”

While the three-time Super Bowl winner never tagged Mayfield in any of his tweets, the quarterback soon latched onto the fact that he was being dumped on and jumped in.

“You got it big fella! At least tag me in all your stuff,” he tweeted Schlereth, who was quick to respond, saying it was nothing personal.

“You got it my man. Nothing against you I just don’t like the award because it doesn’t include all players it’s really an award for QB’s and RB’s and I think it should be for the best football player not the best player that touches the ball the most,” Schlereth replied on Twitter.

While Mayfield may have received quite a bit of flack from the sports analyst on social media, it doesn’t change the fact that he was graded as the best draft-eligible quarterback in the nation, according to The Palm Beach Post. Statistically he is said to be most efficient passer in college football and has shown he can thrive under pressure.
