Bachmann Would 'Love' to Debate Obama

Monday, 18 April 2011 12:02 PM EDT

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, who is expected to jump into the race for the Republican presidential nomination, told a weekend crowd in South Carolina that she wants to debate President Barack Obama. Speaking at a Bluffton tea party event, she said she plans to set up a committee in the Smiling Faces state next month, the Bluffton News reported.

South Carolina hosts one of the first 2012 presidential primaries, and Bachmann described the state as a “launching pad” to the presidential nomination.

“If I . . . (am) the president . . . I will make strong, bold decisions immediately even if it means I am a one-term president,” said Bachmann, founder and head of the House Tea Party Caucus. “It’s more important to turn the country around as quickly as we can.”

Then she added, “I would love to debate Barack Obama.”

Republicans have a shot at what she called a “triple crown” — holding the House and winning back the White House and Senate, she said.

“We can repeal Obamacare,” she declared. “We can cut taxes so we can have jobs creation.”
