Babysitter: Amber Alert Informed Me I Was Watching a Missing Child

Babysitters in suburban Seattle said they were stunned Wednesday to find out the child they were watching was missing and featured in an Amber Alert.

John Truong told authorities that his sister had asked him and his wife to look after a 2-year-old whom she said was her boyfriend's son, KOMO-TV reported.

Truong told the station that he first realized he was housing a missing child when he saw the Amber Alert, which was originally issued Tuesday night, on social media Wednesday morning. The alert said the boy had been kidnapped from his mother's home in nearby Des Moines, Washington.

"I'm eating my breakfast, I'm checking my Facebook, all of a sudden I see this Amber Alert for this child," Truong told KOMO-TV. "And it looks like this child in my bed, and I'm like, 'Oh my God! What's going on?'"

Truong said he immediately called authorities who came and took the child into custody.

"He was a great kid," Truong said. "He didn't cry much or anything. He enjoyed my dog's company and my children's company."

The kidnapping was just the part of the bizarre crime involving Truong's sister, identified by Des Moines police to ABC News as 46-year-old Alyssa Chang. Authorities are accusing Chang and the child's paternal grandmother, 65-year-old Vien Nguyen, of going to a home, attacking the child's mother with a Taser, and kidnapping him. Their motivation is not clear.

Des Moines police Sgt. Mike Graddon said Chang or Nguyen are accused of incapacitating the mother, tying her up, and transporting her to a home in Fife, Washington, about 20 miles away. That's when Chang took the child to her brother's home, Graddon said.

The mother eventually managed to escape and contact police. Chang and Nguyen have been charged with kidnapping, felony assault, and unlawful imprisonment, according to ABC News.

"We're still trying to make sense of this whole thing," Truong said.

The boy's father, Kang Tran, was questioned by authorities but was not charged in the incident.
