A baby believed born in a Tucson International Airport restroom was left behind with a note that said, “I’m sorry.”

The baby was found lying on a changing table by an airport employee on Jan. 14, the Arizona Republic reported, and since then investigators have been trying to track down the mother.

The Tucson Airport Authority released chilling new information about the incident, as well as video footage showing the unidentified mother walking around the airport with what appears to be the baby.

Authorities speculated that the young woman may have given birth in one airport restroom and then hurried to another one, where she left the infant.

Juana Quintana, a custodian, said she encountered the woman, who was holding the baby, in a restroom.

According to her account, there were pools of blood on the bathroom floor but when Quintana approached the woman, she said the baby was three-months-old before hurrying off, The Washington Post reported.

Quintana said bloody clothes had been dumped into a trash can and covered with paper towels, perhaps in an effort to conceal them

Airport police said it was likely that the woman had given birth in a restroom in Concourse B before taking the baby to a family restroom in the baggage claim area to clean up, the Arizona Daily Star reported.

The baby was found with a torn umbilical cord, which responding medics clamped immediately, and a note that read, “I just want what is best for him and it is not me. Please. I’m sorry,” according to the Washington Post.
