Axl Rose took to Twitter this week to clear up a death hoax claiming that the Guns N' Roses frontman had died recently, even making a joke about the fake viral story.

A fake news report from a phony MSNBC website quickly spread online this week and reported that the 52-year-old rocker had died on Tuesday.

"Sources are reporting that music legend Axl Rose, last remaining original member of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame band Guns N' Roses, has been found dead at the age of 52," the fake news report said. "Unconfirmed reports say Rose was found dead Tuesday late afternoon in his West Hollywood home after police were called around 3:30 pm for a welfare check."

Rose responded to the news of his death on Twitter Thursday.

VH1's Jonathan Runtagh felt it was a lighthearted way for Rose to swat away the nasty rumor.

"News Flash: Axl Rose is still alive," Runtagh wrote. "And our source is pretty legit — it's Axl himself. The Guns N' Roses frontman took to Twitter last night to respond to a death hoax that was running wild on the Internet. Being presumed dead can be hard on a man's swag, but Axl's response was pretty damn funny."

The false news report upset Guns N' Roses fans.

Many celebrities have fallen victim to online death hoaxes, including Bill Nye "The Science Guy," Chris Brown, Jackie Chan, Jon Bon Jovi, Russell Crowe, Jeff Goldblum, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
