Arnold Schwarzenegger has revealed that he underwent heart surgery to receive a new aortic valve. The former California governor shared the news in a health update posted to social media on Friday.

"Thanks to the team at the Cleveland Clinic, I have a new aortic valve to go along with my new pulmonary valve from my last surgery," Schwarzenegger wrote in a tweet that included a photo of him lying in a hospital bed, giving a thumbs up, as well as photos of him posing in front of various statues in Cleveland.

"I feel fantastic and have already been walking the streets of Cleveland enjoying your amazing statues," the "Terminator" star added. "Thank you to every doc and nurse on my team!"

Schwarzenegger last underwent surgery in 2018 after complications arose from a planned heart valve replacement for one that was placed in 1997 because of a congenital heart defect. The actor's spokesperson, Daniel Ketchell, explained at the time that the first replacement valve was never meant to be permanent, and had "outlived its life expectancy," according to Fox News. Schwarzenegger chose to replace it in 2018 through "a less-invasive" catheter valve replacement.

"During that procedure, an open-heart surgery team was prepared, as they frequently are in these circumstances, in case the catheter procedure was unable to be performed. Governor Schwarzenegger's pulmonic valve was successfully replaced and he is currently recovering from the surgery and is in stable condition," Ketchell said.

Schwarzenegger is familiar with the inside of a hospital room. In 2001, he had a motorcycle crash that left him with several broken ribs. He then had a hip replaced and rotator cuff surgery in 2003 and broke his right femur in a skiing accident in 2006.
