A stolen armored personnel carrier led police in an unusual pursuit as it clanked its way through the streets of Richmond, Virginia, Tuesday night.

Residents emerged from their houses to watch the spectacle unfold and gawked at the sight as the bulky vehicle passed by, followed by a line of blaring police cars and a helicopter, CNN noted.

The military vehicle was reportedly stolen by a soldier from Fort Pickett, a National Guard base, just before 8 p.m.

Police were alerted to the incident and embarked upon a chase after the armored carrier, which was not equipped with any weaponry, as it made its way along Route 460 and Interstate 95 and eventually downtown Richmond, where the driver was arrested.

Witnesses reported that the vehicle came to a halt on a median and that the driver got out and was walking around when police allegedly sent a dog to attack him before shooting him with a taser, according to the Richmond-Times Dispatch.

However, State Police Sgt. Keeli Hill could not confirm these reports.

She noted that no injuries had been reported and that the suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Charges are pending as investigations continue.

Video footage of the incident has since been widely circulated on social media and has drawn its fair share of jokes and posts mocking the ordeal.
