Archie Comics is coming to TV in a new live-action series called "Riverdale," as the CW continues to dip into the comic book world for programming.

K.J. Apa gets the lead role as Archie with Lili Reinhart playing Betty and Camila Mendes as Veronica from the classic cartoon series, according to Entertainment Weekly. The celebrity publication reported that the series will explore "the surrealism of small town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale's wholesome facade."

The news of the "Riverdale" series comes on the heel of the announcement that DC Comics' property "Supergirl" will move from sister network CBS to the CW for its second season, Deadline.com reported.

"The ['Supergirl'] pickup, which comes hours after the most recent deadline for CBS to make a renewal decision on the freshman series, expands the CW DC superhero universe to four series, all from producer Greg Berlanti, as 'Supergirl' is set to join 'The Flash,' 'Arrow,' and 'DC's Legends of Tomorrow,'" the website wrote.

"One of them, 'Flash,' already crossed over to 'Supergirl' on CBS, making for a seamless integration of the newbie into the CW superhero squad," Deadline continued.

The Hollywood Reporter stated that the "Riverdale" Archie Comics series first started in the hands of Fox before the CW took it over.

"Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa ('Supergirl,' 'Glee') penned the script and exec produces the Warner Bros. Television drama," wrote The Hollywood Reporter. "Berlanti, a lifelong Archie fan and THR's TV Producer of the Year, exec produces via his studio-based Berlanti Productions."

People magazine wrote in March that Luke Perry, of "90201" fame, will play Archie's father.

"And yes, that latter bit should make you feel a little old, but hey — at least the CW is keeping up its tradition of making sure everyone on its shows is as beautiful as possible, parents included," wrote People. "In fact, Madchen Amick ('Twin Peaks') and Marisol Nichols ('24') were cast as the mothers of Betty and Veronica, respectively."
