Antonio Brown's personalized cleats nearly knocked the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver out of Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles when he was told not to come out of the locker room for the second half if he was still wearing the uniform-violating blue cleats with his kids’ pictures painted on them.

Brown was fined for wearing the cleats and for twerking during the Steelers opener, but this was the first time he (or any player) has been told he could be ejected for a uniform violation, according to ESPN. Brown did change his shoes to comply with the refs’ request, although he had called the earlier fines “nothing to a boss.”

Brown said on Twitter he wore the cleats to show that his kids are "the four reasons I lace them up every day."

The cleats are similar to those the team wears, but are blue instead of the white, black, and gold ones that are part of the official uniform. The NFL has rules about uniforms so that players look alike and can be quickly identified on the field.

Although most refs have not threatened to eject a player for uniform violations, NFL rules do allow them to disallow players from playing if a uniform violation does occur, according to Fox Sports.

The possibility of not playing was enough to get Brown to comply with the rules. Brown caught 12 of 18 passes for a total of 140 yards during the game.

Brown and the Steelers play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night. He has not said yet whether he plans to wear the uniform cleats or whether he will incur another fine and risk ejection again.
