Antoni Gaudi: Google Doodle Celebrates Architect's 161st Birthday

Google paid tribute to the great Antoni Gaudi Tuesday with a doodle in honor of the Spanish architect's 161st birthday.

Gaudi was born in the Catalonia region of Spain in 1852 and later moved to Barcelona to study architecture. His work can be seen all over the country, from street lamps and fountains to homes and churches.

He is perhaps best known for his masterpiece and life's work — the Basilica i Temple Expiatori de la Sagrada Familia. Gaudi began designing the church in 1883 and it consumed him until his death in 1926.

The Google doodle highlights Park Guell, a park in Barcelona; La Pedrera, a Gaudi design that was declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1984; and the architect's signature chimneys and rooftop tiles, PCMag.com reported. 

Gaudi's birthday did not go unnoticed by Twitter users either.
