Angelina Jolie once offered herself as dinner date bait in hopes of capturing African warlord Joseph Kony, the Sunday Times of London reported, quoting leaked documents from the International Criminal Court.

Luis Moreno Ocampo, the court's chief prosecutor, had hoped to embed the actress and possibly her estranged husband Brad Pitt with some U.S. special forces close to what they believed was a Kony stronghold where hundreds of children had been taken, the Times reported.

The Times said, according to one leaked email, Moreno Ocampo claimed that Jolie "has the idea to invite Kony to dinner and then arrest him."

"Forget other celebrities, she is the one," Moreno Ocampo said in another email, People magazine reported. "She loves to arrest Kony. She is ready. Probably Brad (Pitt) will go also."

Kony and his Lord's Resistance Army movement had been fighting then to install a government in Uganda, and have waged war in the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic for more than 20 years, the BBC News said.

Kony is wanted for war crimes by the International Criminal and is suspected of abducting thousands of children and turning them into fighters and sex slaves, the BBC said.

People said the emails were part of 40,000 documents leaked from the International Criminal Court to the French investigative website Mediapart.

The Sunday Times said, though, nothing never happened despite Moreno Ocampo developing a fixation on using celebrities during his time as chief prosecutor at the ICC until his term ended in 2012.

Jolie had visited the ICC in the Hague, Netherlands in May 2009 to watch Moreno Ocampo prosecute Congolese warlord Thomas Lubanga, People said. The Academy Award-winning actress and director was appointed as a special envoy for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 2012 after years of assisting the organization, according to the UNHCR website.
