Amy Adams: Soldier Gets First-Class Seat on Flight, I'll Move to Coach

By    |   Friday, 27 June 2014 03:34 PM

Actress Amy Adams gave up her first-class seat on a Friday morning flight to a U.S. soldier booked in coach, and her respectful act was witnessed by ESPN’s Jemele Hill, who promptly tweeted her admiration.

At 9:14 a.m., Hill tweeted, “Just saw actress Amy Adams do something incredibly classy. She gave her 1st class seat to an American soldier. I’m an even bigger fan now.”

And as one person pointed out online, someone flying coach got a chance to sit next to Adams:

That someone was Ernest Owens, who took to Twitter to circulate a picture of himself with Adams. He was the lucky person in coach who would have been sitting beside the soldier and ended up with the award-winning actress.

Adams is one of seven children of Kathryn and Richard Kent Adams, and she was born in Vicenza, Italy, while her father was stationed at Caserma Ederle military base. The popular actress likely retains a soft spot for service people from her family’s military background.

The "Today" show emailed with Hill to get more details about Adams' kind gesture.

"When we were waiting to board, I saw her glance the soldier's way and then she said something to the person she was traveling with," Hill said. "Once we boarded, I saw she was in first class. I was upgraded to first class and she was a couple rows behind me. I think she must have said something to the flight attendant, because before we took off she had vacated her seat and the flight attendant brought the soldier to her seat."

Hill also told "Today" that she wasn’t sure at first if the soldier was aware of who had given the seat, but found out later that the man and Adams talked privately.
