Amy Adams is expected to star as Janis Joplin in the long-awaiting biopic "Get It While You Can," under the direction of Jean-Marc Vallee, who guided Matthew McConaughey to an Academy Award in "Dallas Buyers Club."
According to Deadline.com, Vallee is signed on to the project which could reunite him with "Dallas Buyers Club" writers Craig Borten and Melisa Wallack, who are in negotiation to rewrite the original script by Ron and Theresa Terry with a shooting date of mid-2015.
Matthew McConaughey won best actor honors and Jared Leto captured a best supporting actor Oscar under Vallee's director in "Dallas Buyers Club." Borten and Wallack were nominated for best adapted screenplay Academy Awards for the same movie.
Adams has been nominated for Oscars five times, the last time in 2014 for best actress in "American Hustle."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, though, while Adams has been connected to the Joplin project for some time, it has seen its share of directors come and go, including Lee Daniels, Fernando Meirelles and Catherine Hardwicke. At one time Renee Zellweger was set to star as the lead in the movie.
Roy Terry is producing the movie with Vallee's producing partner Nathan Ross, giving a hint that Vallee may be around to stay this time.
Vallee has been a busy director, completing "Demolition," a movie starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts. THR noted that his newest flick, "Wild" with Reese Witherspoon, will hit theaters on Dec. 5.
In an interview last week with
Indiewire's Playlist, Vallee gave some insight into his thought process with "Demolition" and it's music after having such great success with "Dallas Buyers Club."
"Well, I think it started for them with the beautiful script by Bryan Sipe, and then I suppose it made a difference for them to know it's the director from 'Dallas' who's doing this sort of approach," said Vallee. "I think they loved it, to shoot 360 degrees with no cutting, shooting the rehearsals and using the space in the moment very creatively.
"I like to offer playlists at the end of my shoots because it makes a great gift...It's a way of seeing the world, embracing it through music," he said.
