"America's Next Top Model" has been cancelled by the CW network after surviving for 12 years, first on the old UPN network and then CW.

Tyra Banks, the creator and longtime host of "America's Next Top Model," tweeted about the show's demise on Wednesday.

"Our diehard fans know we've expanded the definition of beauty," Banks wrote on Instagram later Wednesday. "…Wow, I am so proud of what 'Top Model' has done. #ANTM brought the intimidating modeling world to the masses. We were the first reality show based in the fashion world."

"America's Next Top Model," which was part of the CW's initial lineup in 2006, had continued to be a steady rating getter, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show's current season was averaging a 0.6 rating among adults 18-49 and 1.7 million viewers.

"'America's Next Top Model' was a successful franchise for two networks," said CW president Mark Pedowitz. "... and it became not just a ratings hit, but a global pop culture phenomenon. I want to thank Tyra and Ken (Mok, producer) for all their years of success in establishing a show that was not just popular in the U.S., but all across the world."

Banks said on Instagram she was pleased that "America's Next Top Model" tried to add to conversation of what is beauty and the modeling industry.

"I never thought my little idea would have people everywhere thinking differently about how they take photos," said Banks. "And I never thought we'd do 22 cycles.".
