America's priciest home has hit the open market in Los Angeles and is listed for a whopping $245 million.

The 25,000-square-foot Bel Air mansion was owned by late billionaire A. Jerrold Perenchio, who died last year at age 86, and dates back to the 1930s, The Los Angeles Times noted.

If sold, it would officially surpass the current Los Angeles County sales record that is held by natural gas billionaire Michael Smith's $110 million beach house, which he acquired in April from Hard Rock Cafe founder Peter Morton.

Perenchio's estate was originally designed by architect Sumner Spaulding, who was hired by a property developer wanting to give his wife a mansion, Variety noted.

However, the property developer's wife reportedly hated the design and never moved in, leaving the mansion empty until the 1940s, when it was purchased by hotelier Arnold Kirkeby.

Perenchio later acquired the property and, according to Mansion Global, added onto it acre by acre through the purchase of several additional million dollar parcels.

The limestone chateau features formal rooms, a 12,000-bottle wine cellar, formal salon and paneled dining room.

The property also includes manicured gardens with hedged walls, a 75-foot pool with pool house, tennis court and a five-bedroom guest house. Completing the design is covered parking with space for 40 cars.
