Amazon's Black Friday sales started a week early this past Friday, with the Internet retailer posting new deals every 10 minutes for eight straight days.

BGR reported that in addition to the steady waterfall of sales items, Amazon will also be offering thousands of limited-time "Lighting Deals" on its special Black Friday website. To help fulfill the tidal wave of online orders, Amazon has deployed more warehouse robots, as well as hired 80,000 seasonal workers — 10,000 more than last year.

"Our customers are redefining Black Friday shopping. They want to stay home with family, enjoy some turkey and football and shop the hottest deals from their phone, tablet, or PC," explained Steve Shure, Amazon Vice President of Worldwide Marketing.

Amazon Prime membership perks still apply to Black Friday deals, and customers who shop using Amazon Smile to donate to their favorite charity can purchase Black Friday deals through the popular program as well.

In general, retailers across the nation have been opening earlier and earlier with each passing year, and both Amazon and Wal-Mart have spread their Black Friday sales over multiple days. Last year, Amazon was the number one most visited online retailer on Black Friday, and it will definitely be looking to hold on to that title in the face of big box retailers that are working to increase their online traffic.

"Retailers know that big pop, the big Black Friday day — it’s not working," said Bankrate.com analyst Jeanine Skowronski, according to the New York Post.

Amazon's marathon sale includes electronics, toys, books, apparel, baby gear, movies, music, wine, tools, athletic equipment, pet accessories, and goods for the kitchen, lawn and garden, and arts and crafts.
