"Girls" star Allison Williams defended her father, suspended NBC News anchor Brian Williams, telling an audience in New York City, "I know you can trust him."

Brian Williams has been suspended by the network for six months over comments he made about taking enemy fire while riding in a helicopter during the Iraq War in 2003. He later admitted some of the details were false and has since come under scrutiny for his comments about other assignments.

Making some of her first comments about her father since the controversy broke, Allison Williams told Seth Meyers during "Q&A with Seth Meyers at 92Y" that she believed in her father and his integrity, according to the New York Post.

"This has been a really hard time," she told Meyers, describing how her family was handling her father's suspension. "Obviously (it's) toughest on my dad, who is sort of bearing the full burden of the responsibility for it, but my mom has been so strong and my brother has been amazing. My dad has always been there for us 100 percent of the time … so to be here for him is the least we can do."

Allison Williams told Meyers, according to Us Weekly, that the suspension has slowed plans for her wedding with Ricky Van Veen, who she has been engaged to since last year.

"It's been a very full year," she said. "You sort of think, 'What could possibly come along that would make me not think about this?' And then I get 'Peter Pan' and I think, 'Okay, I will think only about Neverland and then we'll go back to planning our wedding.'

"And then current events started happening and so that derailed it a little bit, but it has been this really beautiful throughline in our lives. It's just something we haven't focused on, but, spoiler alert, we are excited," Williams added.

Williams has played the role of Marnie on the award-winning HBO show "Girls" for the past four seasons.
