An alligator halted a Spirit Airlines plane at Orlando International Airport while the beast sauntered across the tarmac in front of the taxiing flight.

The plane was on its way to the gate after landing on Monday and had to pause for the alligator that was patiently making its way across the taxiway, CBS News reported.

Anthony Verladi, a passenger on the Spirit flight, spotted the meandering gator and posted a video of it on Facebook which has since gone viral with more than 30,000 views.

"Only in Florida... a gator held up our Spirit Airlines plane crossing the runway at MCO on the way home from DC," Verladi said on Facebook.

Why did the alligator cross the airport taxiway? To get to the pond on the other side.

An airport rep told website Air Live that even though about 271 acres of the airport is covered with water, alligator sightings are rare and usually don’t impact airport operations.

Alligators are more apt to disturb golf games than airplane flights. In April, PGA golfer Talor Gooch encountered one on the 18th hole at TPC Louisiana during the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, according to Golf Digest.

Gooch landed in the bunker of the par-five hole and when he arrived, he saw three alligators along the edge of the water next to it.

"They weren't happy with us," Gooch told Golf Digest. He was eventually allowed by tournament officials to take a drop away from the living golf hazard. "I like my life. I like it with all my limbs. So, I stay away from those things."

Many on social media had a humorous take on the airplane-stopping gator.
