Alison Sweeney told Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday that she’ll end her 21-year run on the daytime soap opera “Days of Our Lives.”
Sweeney was just 16 years old when she took on the role of Sami Brady, and since then, she told DeGeneres, she’s never had more than a two-week vacation. “I love Sami, I love Salem, I love my job, I love daytime, I love the fans, I love everything about it,” she said.

But while she has no complaints about her "Days" world, Sweeney has also been juggling her host role on “The Biggest Loser” for seven years. The busy actress reported that it’s time for some downtime with her children, ages 5 and 9.
“I just want to be with them and enjoy my last year,” she told Degeneres, adding that she’ll continue on “Days” this year and doesn’t know when her final episode will run.
She also doesn’t have any idea how the show’s writers will remove her character.
“I mean it would be awesome to have some kind of happy ending, but then I also think Sami probably deserves some sort of very twisted like 'Breaking Bad' ending, I don't know,” Sweeney said.
The actress won’t be bored. She’s also a writer and director with another book coming out soon. She has written “The Mommy Diet” and also “The Star Attraction.” Sweeney told Degeneres she also enjoys directing.
Fans of the long-running soap were sad to hear one of the characters is leaving.
