Alec Baldwin's wife, Hilaria Baldwin, has clapped back at critics accusing her of pretending to be Spanish. Taking to Instagram on Sunday, "The Living Clearly Method" author addressed claims that she is a white woman who has been faking her Spanish heritage.

"I’ve seen chatter online questioning my identity and culture. This is something I take very seriously, and for those who are asking — I’ll reiterate my story, as I’ve done many times before," she captioned a video in which she explained her background. "I was born in Boston and grew up spending time with my family between Massachusetts and Spain. My parents and sibling live in Spain and I chose to live here, in the USA."

Hilaria's post comes in response to viral tweets in which one Twitter user accused her of impersonating a Spanish person. The same Twitter user then shared video in which Hilaria slipped between a Spanish and English accent and admitted not knowing how to say "cucumber" in English despite growing up in Massachusetts.

In her Instagram video, Hilaria said people often tried to label her either Spanish or white but she identified with both cultures.

"Yes, I am a white girl ... Europe has a lot of white people in there," she said. "My family is white. Ethnically, I am a mix of many many many things,” she said. “Culturally, I grew up with two cultures. So it’s really as simple as that."

Hilaria further stated that she was "a different kind of Bostonian" and was proud of who she was. She added that she had grown up speaking two languages and reiterated that her family lives in Spain.

"You just want to be open about it, and that’s what I’m trying to do here," she said. "I’m learning what makes me unique is also a value to myself. This is who I am and my life story. It may not fit into your cookie cutter and it might not fit into a label, but it’s a weird mix of who I am."
