Adrianne Haslet-Davis made a vow almost a year ago that she would dance again after losing part of her left leg in the 2013 Boston bombing attacks and, this week, she made good on her promise.
Dressed in a shimmering white dress and fitted with a bionic prosthetic leg, Haslet-Davis danced the rumba in front of hundreds at the 2014 TED Conference in Vancouver, Canada, Wednesday.
"Conquering that out on that stage felt like accomplishing something I have been waiting my entire life to accomplish,"
the 33-year-old professional dancer told the Boston Herald after her performance. "The feeling is priceless. It took me a long time to even listen to music after the marathon. To dance again is incredible. I was always determined to dance again, and I knew that I had to, that I would, and here I am. I'm a survivor, not a victim."

Haslet-Davis and her husband, Air Force Maj. Adam Davis, were just two of the 260 people injured after the twin bombings at last year's Boston Marathon. Three people died in the attacks, allegedly orchestrated by brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tsarnaev.
Now, less than a month away from the one-year anniversary of the tragedy, Haslet-Davis says the chance to dance again "meant the world" to her.
"It’s been a long road," she said. "It really has been a road, so today is extra celebratory
because it has really come to fruition. We thought we could do it,
we planned to do it, and we did it."
