Addison Russell and the newly dubbed "Nacho Man" stole the show at Monday's game between the Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. The second inning saw the Cubs' Russell diving for a foul ball into the front-row seats behind the left field line, according to CSN Chicago. In the process, he knocked a fan's nachos out of his hands.
While Russell neared the stands, eyes intently tracking the pop-fly ball, the fan stood up and away from the play, nachos in hand. Unfortunately for him and his serving of the popular game time snack, Russell hit the fence, leapt into the stands and kicked the nachos to the ground.
The snack spilled on the fan, whose name is Andrew Gudermuth, 21, of Chesterfield, Missouri, and his girlfriend, Hannah Lucas, the Chicago Tribune reported.
When the Busch Stadium video board replayed the moment of the nachos hitting the ground, the crowd booed, CSN said.
Fortunately for the dismayed St. Louis Cardinals fan, this cheesy foul ball turned into what could have been one of the best nights of his life. After receiving a new helping of nachos, courtesy of the Cardinals, "Nacho Man" then got to meet Russell when the infielder personally brought him yet another serving of nachos, this time courtesy of the Cubs, Heavy reported.
The cherry (or cheese,) on top of "Nacho Man's" evening was the moment when he caught a foul ball and threw it to a kid, inciting cheers from the crowd.
When interviewed by ESPN MLB about his cheesy encounter and why he delivered a new helping to the fan himself, Russell said with a smile, "You don't get in front of a man and his nachos."
