Adam Rippon has backed out of an NBC gig as a correspondent for the remainder of the Pyeongchang, South Korea, Olympic Games, CNN reported Sunday.

NBC said Sunday morning that the 28-year-old bronze medalist who earlier bashed Vice President Mike Pence would work for them over its television, digital and social media platforms for the rest of the games, ending on March 25, CNN wrote.

Rippon, one of the first openly gay U.S. athletes to compete at the Olympics, had been one of the most popular athletes at the Winter Games for his skating skills and interviews, Fox News wrote.

By the evening, though, Rippon responded on Twitter saying that he had turned down the offer because he did not want to leave the Olympic Village.

Fox News said before he arrived in South Korea, he feuded with Pence over gay rights.

Pence as governor of Indiana had supported the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which was viewed by some as not LGBT friendly, Fox News noted. He and his wife, Karen led the U.S. delegation at the Olympic Games, per Fox News.

Rippon reportedly called out Pence on his track record on LGBTQ issues and claimed that he would not visit the White House for a celebration, CNN said.

Despite the snub, Pence issued a tweet supporting the skater.
