Abby Wambach Marries Soccer Teammate Sarah Huffman in Hawaii

Just months after breaking Mia Hamm's all-time international scoring record, U.S. soccer star Abby Wambach added another accomplishment to her résumé – she married longtime partner and fellow teammate Sarah Huffman over the weekend.

Wambach, who also won the FIFA Women's World Player of the Year award earlier this year, and Huffman both play on the Western New York Flash, and a handful of their teammates joined the couple for their nuptials in Hawaii Saturday.

Brandi Chastain, who played with Wambach on the 2003 U.S. World Cup team, said she's thrilled for her friend.

"I knew about Abby's engagement, I played with Abby for years," Chastain told USA Today Sports on Wednesday. "I'm very happy for her like I am for all my teammates and friends who get to experience that love that goes along with getting married."

Wambach, 33, has never publically discussed her sexuality, but has made no point to keep it a secret either.

Huffman, 29, spoke about LGBT rights in July when she joined the pro-gay nonprofit organization Athlete Ally as an ambassador.

"I am proud to be an athlete ally because I dream of a world full of equal opportunities and treatment," Huffman said in a statement at the time. "I believe that sports are a place where everybody belongs. Discrimination based upon sexual orientation, race, gender have no place in the world — nevertheless sports. I am excited to be an ally and stand up for people like me in the LGBT community."
