Aaron Gutierrez Saves Pregnant Wife From Speeding Truck

Aaron Gutierrez saved his pregnant wife by putting his own life in danger to push her out of the way of a careening truck.

The Fresno father of three ended up with a broken leg and shoulder in January after he was struck by a blue Toyota Tacoma that had run a red light, according to ABC News.

Gutierrez, who is now on the mend, opened up to People magazine about the harrowing experience.

"I heard a big bang, I looked over my shoulder and I saw the truck flying towards us, I looked at my wife, and it was heading right towards her direction," he recalled of the night.

Gutierrez had been out celebrating his son's birthday at a local pizzeria with his wife, mother and two other children, and were walking home when the incident occurred. He had his 1-year-old son in his arms.

"I knew I was going to get hit, and I put my son as high as I could, and I got hit," he told People. "Luckily enough, I played football for so many years so I was able to cuddle my son into my hands when I flew into the building. After that, I blacked out."

Gutierrez and his mother were both hit by the vehicle and, while he was able to spare his wife, unborn baby and children from major injuries, his mother suffered a broken back and bleeding brain and had to be rushed to ICU.

People noted that Gutierrez is healing but has to rely on a walker to move around while his mother is still in the hospital.

She is expected to be released soon however doctors are not certain of the extent of her lasting injuries.

"At first, I had a lot of anger," Gutierrez admitted of the incident. "But our family is way closer and we have a better bond now. I get to spend more time with my kids and wife since I was always on the road before. So in that way, it was blessing in disguise."

A GoFundMe page, which was set up to help the family pay for medical bills, noted that Gutierrez had also recently been diagnosed with cancer and was due to start chemotherapy.

Over $4,000 has been raised however, the amount still falls short of the $20,000 goal.

"Aaron is the sole provider for his family," wrote his cousin, Michelle Perez.

"His insurance is not paying for any of the required medical necessities that Aaron needs for a faster recovery. My family is in great need and I plan on delivering all money raised personally to ensure their bills are paid and they have the essentials they need to get through this rough time."
