4 Shot in Basement: Ohio Victims Were Killed Execution-Style, Say Police

By    |   Friday, 19 April 2013 08:56 AM

The bodies of two men and two women who were in their 20s were found in the basement of an Ohio apartment complex Thursday, with apparent gunshot wounds to their heads, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Police said the victims' bodies were found around 3 p.m. in the basement of a Kimlyn Circle townhouse in North Akron, about 35 miles from Cleveland. A victim's sister leased the townhouse.

The four were killed by the execution-style shootings, and shell casings were found on two levels of the apartment, officials said.

No suspects had been identified and no motive had been formed, police said.

Family members identified the victims as Ronald Roberts, 24; Maria Nash, 19, and Kem Delaney, 23. Roberts’ family said his girlfriend, Kiana "Kiki" Welch, is the fourth person dead, according to local outlet News Net 5. Police have not confirmed their identities.

April Roberts-Gilbert, 45, Roberts' mother, went to the complex on Wednesday.

“My son would not do anything for anything like this to happen,” she told the Beacon Journal, sobbing. “I just feel that it is wrong that they’re out there killing each other. And for what? What does it solve? It’s not solving anything.

“Now, I have a 24-year-old son that I have to put away. And for what? Can you please tell my why? That’s all I want to know. Why?”

Donald Durham, 54, the Roberts' father, said his son recently became a father for the second time and was training to be a draftsman.

“I just think he might have got caught up with the wrong crowd,” Durham said. “Whoever did this wasn’t looking for him. But they weren’t going to leave any witnesses.”

Police are investigating, interviewing neighbors and witnesses.

Tony O’Leary, executive director of Akron Metropolitan Housing Authority, said he is shocked by the tragic news.

“Historically, it has been a very calm development,” O’Leary told the Beacon Journal. “We track all police reports for all of our developments. There’s generally a low level of activity there that would require a police response.”
