11-Year-Old Handcuffed in Michigan in Disturbing Video

An 11-year-old girl was handcuffed at gunpoint by police in Michigan, and a disturbing video captured by one of the officer's body cameras has been released.

The Grand Rapids Police Department launched investigations into the incident and on Tuesday released the footage, which shows police officers pointing their guns at the preteen and cuffing her as she screams, ABC News noted.

According to a statement by the Grand Rapids Police Department, the officers were searching for a suspect linked to a domestic-related stabbing who had fled the scene with a knife and who they believed was hiding out at a Westside Grand Rapids home.

As the officers were setting up a perimeter, three females exited the home, two adults and the 11-year-old girl who was later identified as Honestie Hodges.

They were detained by police while a complete home check was conducted, upon the owner's consent. Police came out empty handed and released the three.

The suspect was later found at another home nearby and was subsequently arrested and charged, police said.

Meanwhile, Honestie Hodges is still reeling from the incident.

"I'm afraid to open or go near my back door ... because of what happened," she told WOOD-TV. "I'm just wondering why they did that to me."

The young girl said she had wanted to be a detective or police officer when she grew up but now she did not want anything to do with "those kind of things."

Grand Rapids Mayor Rosalynn Bliss said the video was "deeply, deeply disturbing," The Washington Post noted. "No child in our community should experience that, and we have a lot of work to do, and we know that."

Grand Rapids Police Chief David Rahinsky said hearing Hodges' voice pleading with the officers made him feel sick.

"In this situation, I don't think we acted accordingly," he said, per ABC News. "I think we need to take a look at everything we do because if an officer can point to policy or can point to training or point to hiring and say, 'This is what I was told, this is how I was taught, this is consistent with practice,' then we've got a problem."
