I simply can’t help myself. Surrounded each and every day by powerful, glowing reminders of my unbridled American dream, I do not wait for the last Thursday in November to give sincere, gung-ho thanks for the unlimited blessings in my life.
And after 66 years of this wonderful Gonzo insanity, the incremental accumulation of joyful celebration literally takes on a life of its own on a daily basis.
Sure, Tribe Nuge will gather around a huge table with as many loving family members as we can from around the country. The Thanksgiving table will again be overloaded with borderline guilty heaps of scrumptious food.
There will be haunches and slabs of hard-earned venison, maybe one of the many wild turkeys and or other wildfowl we kill each year. Certainly a mountain of real smashed potatoes with the skins still there, buttery yams and squash, the ubiquitous cranberry goo from our farmer friends in Michigan, and we all love that green bean casserole covered in mushroom slop and crispy onion shrapnel.
The fireplace will be a crackling with perfect logs we all cut and split together, making the fire that much warmer.
Kids will surely be running amok, raising hell throughout the house while hopeful eye-candy snowflakes bring that special atmosphere and spirit to the traditional setting.
And like tens of millions of American families nationwide, Thanksgiving Day is also a very special traditional day of deer hunting for us, whether we are at our homes in Michigan or Texas, and returning from our nearby woods or swamp makes the warm, noisy, wild family setting that much more complete.
Just for this event alone would be more than enough to be thankful for, but there is so much more.
I thank God on bended knee for being born in the last, and dare I say, only best place where individual freedom remains the foundation of life itself here in America.
I give gushing thanks for being born to a mother and father who literally gave it all they had to raise my brothers and sister and me to be smart, accountable, kind, loving, thoughtful, caring, giving, hardworking, disciplined and driven, forced to be the best that we could be.
I thank God every day for having my health. With a conscientious, thoughtful, healthy diet, clean and sober lifetime lifestyle, good daily exercise and overall health awareness and choices, healthy living is personal choice number one for overall quality of life.
I don’t know where to begin to say thank you adequately to the hero warriors of the United States military and their families for their sacrifices, so dedicating themselves to give all for freedom, liberty, and independence. Without them, there would surely be no Thanksgiving at all.
I am thankful that our defiant ancestors refused to bend over any longer to kings, dictators, tyrants and various evil punks, and bravely sailed the unknown seas to create a better life in the brave new world. The deer do not belong to the king here, they belong to we the people.
I look to the heavens every day giving thanks that such unique American freedoms created the uppity defiance that inspired Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, BB King, Albert King, Freddie King, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddly, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, James Brown, and so many outrageous musical monsters that put that freedom and defiance to music, thereby creating the ultimate soulmusic soundtrack for all of our American dreams.
Not so strangely, really, I give much thanks that America has hit rock bottom, intentionally steered straight into the pits of hell, so thoroughly bamboozled by the scamming Barack Obama gang of independence-hating liberal goons, thereby waking up otherwise good, thinking, caring Americans from their embarrassing apathy snoozefest to rise up and throw the bums outl in the recent GOP wave, praying for the return of real America.
I thank God almighty for making liberal Democrats so unbelievably obtuse to so perfectly display and identify all that is wrong with humankind. I am thankful that such idiots unhesitatingly squawk such insanity as “You need to sign this to find out what’s in it!” Thank you, God!
And thank you for Wendy Davis and her cult of lies and hate. Such soullessness guaranteed Gregg Abbott would keep the great republic of Texas Texas.
I give deep thanks for being raised a hunter, responsibly participating in God’s natural tooth, fang, and claw creation of renewable sustain yield harvest each fall hunting season. I thank him for the spectacular, majestic wildlife that bring immeasurable beauty, excitement, and protein to all our lives.
Thank you Lord for making big game animals the perfect design for my arrows and my grill.
Thank you God for creating whatever failures necessary to allow so called animal rights freaks to display such runaway braindead mindlessness as to halt the production and utility of food for mankind. They make my hunting, fishing, and trapping lifestyle seem even more perfect than it is.
All these precious gifts will be exalted on Thanksgiving Day, but I assure you that not a day goes by where I fail to give sincere thanks for all this and more that make my American dream so doggone wonderful.
Happy Thanksgiving every day America. Never take any of it for granted.
