As more and more conservative and Republican voices come out in support of gay rights and gay marriage, the LGBT rights community — presumably populated primarily by liberals — is wrestling with just how to welcome these new advocates from the right, or in some cases, whether to welcome them at all.
It surely isn’t easy to graciously accept the support of a group of perceived historical enemies, even if conservative gay rights advocates like the Log Cabin Republicans and GOProud have been championing the cause for years.
And while many gay groups have been welcoming of the newfound acceptance from Republicans (myself included) who signed on to a Supreme Court amicus brief challenging California’s Proposition 8 ban on gay marriage, others have had a difficult time accepting the change of heart.
