Obama's Post-Zimmerman Gun Conundrum

Many were stunned to learn that a jury of his peers had acquitted George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. In the aftermath, we’ve seen predictable responses from activists like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, who insist that, for failing to declare Zimmerman a murderer in the death of a black teenager, the justice system failed a basic test of fairness.
 
For the left, from the start, this case has been almost all about race. But briefly, in intermittent spurts, it has also been about guns — as all high-profile shootings that do not actually involve inner-city gun crime conveniently are.
 
In an effort to quell race riots over the verdict, no less than the president himself brought the whole thing back to guns, declaring that the way to “honor Trayvon” was through gun control.
