Obama's Address Falsely Touts Bipartisanship

Much to the dismay I'm sure of Paul Krugman, Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., and other far-left sympathizers who resent President Barack Obama's recent attempts at detente, his State of the Union speech was an exercise in people-pleasing centrism. And the result was a sanguine, if perfunctory, glossing over of our current economic woes.

In front of a Congressional audience that's been rightfully mocked by much of the media for its hokey Republican-Democrat seating configuration, and with newly sworn-in Speaker of the House John Boehner behind him, President Obama looked surprisingly comfortable, and sounded surprisingly optimistic.

Especially surprising when you recall the tense tone and awkward optics of the last State of the Union speech, when the president publicly scolded the Supreme Court, and seemed blithely defiant in the face of tanking approval numbers and Republican Scott Brown's humiliating takeover of Ted Kennedy's Massachusetts Senate seat.
